2007
The first hot plate
Mr. Kottu starts with one idea: take the roadside kottu Sri Lanka loves and make it properly, every time.
Then
A kitchen that scales
Standard recipes, trained chefs and the same beat in every branch. Cheese kottu becomes the signature.
Today
Fourteen branches
From Maharagama to Wattala, down to Aluthgama and abroad in Singapore. More than 250 people in the team.
2026
The Prison opens
In Piliyandala, dinner becomes an experience: iron-bar cells, wardens, Indian Dum Biryani and BYOB evenings.
The people behind it
Viraj Wickramanayake
Founder and managing director
Viraj started Mr. Kottu in 2007 and built it into a chain with standard kitchens, trained teams and franchise partners. The Prison is his idea of what eating out in Sri Lanka can be: a night you talk about afterwards.
